Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas!

Christmas for Lily included another top tooth, formula (yes I weaned her), crawling and David's old presents! Christmas for David included cars, cars, and more cars. We had a merry one, hope you did too!

It's December!

Yeah for Holiday Season! Last night and today we were feeling festive so we turned down our AC to 73, and I put on long sleeves and long fuzzy PJ type oufits on the kids. You know, the things you do in South Florida to make it feel like winter! We dove into the Christmas season full throttle and already have are tree up. We got decorations out before Thanksgiving (we knew Zach had to be out of town several weeks in a row so we wanted to do it before that and not wait until the last minute- this is Zach's 'busy' season out work and he has to travel a lot). We got a real tree this year from a tree farm that belongs to David's best friend at school Austin. David is absolutely loving everything Christams even the decorations in the stores.

Lily is all over the place and she is such a guber grabber (as David calls her). She literally grabs everything in sight! One of her top teeth just popped out. She is loving the cats, breastfeeding, and all the food I give her. She is on an extremely strict diet to try to avoid food allergies. She only eats vegetables (not even all of them), prunes, and oatmeal. She was 'supposed' to be on rice on this diet but due to severe constipation problems (runs in the family) we had to eliminate that and switch to oatmeal.

We went to the pediatric gastroenterologist for both kids because of these constipation issues. Lily has hemmohoids and David fissures from chronic constipation. Lily is even already eating an ideal 'constipation' diet. The doctor's cant seem to help me with the kids constipation issues other than give diet tips (which we already do) and miralax (which we do for David). It is very frustrating and poor David has been having blood in his stools for 3 years! hmmm, don't know how I got on this topic. Ok, so David was napping and I only got a few shots of Lily (you know because this kid never naps)...

Fall is here

Football season! We may not have a fall season in terms of weather but football sure makes it feel like fall!

Black beans/Salsa

Ok, I am not a cook but this is a good one.

Soak a bag of black beans overnight. The next day, put the beans and a huge thing of salsa in the crockpot. Cook for several hours. You can use this on top of rice, on top of salad, on its own, et...

Big Day Tomorrow

David starts Pre-K tomorrow! Here in Florida it's a state funded program, so everything is very 'official' including mandatory attendance and no being late! David also turns 4 on Wednesday. Today we went and bought underwear that are way.too.big in hopes that he can pull them up on his own. He needs to be able to go to the bathroom at pre-k on his own because the teacher can't go with the child to assist them. He can do everything except pull up the undies. We had to buy expensive (though they were are on super sale at gymboree because we got lucky and it was tax free weekend) mall underwear because the character brand that you find at walmart/target are just so tight in the waist band even in the larger sizes.

We are working SO hard to get him to accomplish this! It seems like all the other kids don't have a problem, but I have to remind myself he is the youngest- if he had been born 2 weeks later he would be in one grade lower!

We did have open-house/orientation Friday were we got to see the classroom and meet his teacher, Ms. Julie. She showed us the goals for learning this year and I was pretty surprised because David knows almost all of them. The ones he can do include, recognizing capital and lower case letters, recognizing numbers through 20 (he can count past 100- but can only recognize up to 20 that I know of), recognizing colors, recognizing shapes. The ones he needs work on are cutting, writing his first name and writing his last name.

He is so very excited and looking forward to Pre-K. I hope he loves it as much as he thinks he is going to!

Turned the Corner

A couple of weeks ago, things really turned the corner with Lily. Her crying has gotten so much better! I'm really enjoying her now. She does still eat very often- that's a work in progress. David's doing well except he has regressed and has started pooping in his pants. It is extremely frustrating! Without fail, he always does it while I'm feeding Lily. I think he is trying to get my attention. I'm just glad he isn't outwardly taking it out on Lily. He is so very gentle and sweet and positive about and to her. It's very cute to watch. He really is a sweet kid.

We've been staying pretty busy here. David, Lily, and I visited Mimi in GA a week ago. That was fun, but the car ride was hard (especially since Lily can't stand the car!). David did a VBS last week and we've been trying to take daily walks when it's not too hot. Although it doesn't get as hot in FL as it did in Warner Robins, it is hot all day long even at 6am or 10pm. There is no 'relief' so to speak. My hair is just a huge frizzball (ok, it's always been one). I need to take more pictures but my camera is still broken, ughh!!

Robbed

Our van got broken into while in the Publix parking lot. The perpetrators took the GPS and a bag full of new baby clothes ($61 worth). All those years of living in downtown Atlanta I was never robbed and now I'm in suburbia Florida and it happens. Granted, I did leave the van unlocked (I have to lock it manually and that is HARD with 2 kids in tow). I am just SO happy they didn't take my double electric Medela breast pump (if only they knew how much that is worth!). We won't claim this on insurance because we have a $1000 deductable. Can you believe it? Robbed! I still just can't believe it!

Zach is 29

Zach turned 29 Friday. Happy Birthday daddy! We had a low key celebration at our home. David and I baked Zach a vegan cake. This is quick because Lily needs to eat. Lily is wearing the dress and headband I sewed for her (she wouldn't cooperate for the pictures I tried to take- twice). I did this before she was born- I'm trying to teach myself to sew. I love it. I still have a lot to learn!

Lily Update

Lily had her 1 month appointment. She weighed 9lb0oz and was 22in long. At 2 weeks she was 7lb2oz. So, a good weight gain. She is doing well! She has a little umbilical hernia, but the doctor said it would probably go away on its own and if not they wouldn't operate until 2yrs old.

Her nights are getting better- finally! We seemed to have figured out a way to get her to fall asleep. She still wakes up every 3 hours at night to eat, which is actually good because during the day she feeds every 2 hours (always 1 hour each time). I can't say so many good things about her day. She still cries A LOT. She even screamed her whole entire doctor appointment.

David did swim lessons this week and he did SO well! He can now swim to the edge on his own and swim to the steps. He couldn't do any of that before the lessons. We did private lessons and it was expensive but definitely worth it (especially with all the water here in FL). It was nice that it was also at a house in our neighborhood so I could make it there and back in time to feed Lily. My mobility is very limited by Lily's feeding schedule. I know breastfeeding is so healthy and cheap, but wow is it inconvenient! I know other people who can go places and feed their little ones, but I don't know how. Maybe it's because she eats for an hour? I don't know. Any tips appreciated. It's also hard to be any where at a specific time because since she is eating 50% of the day, I'm likely to be in the middle of feeding her when its time to go!

Bathtime Success

It's amazing how different babies can be. I didn't realize how easy David was until we had Lily! We had a major success last night with Lily- the first bath submerged in the baby bath tub. She loved it. She didn't cry, in fact it made her stop crying. She didn't even cry while we dried her and changed her. Funny because David screamed during bathtime and he was not a cryer like Lily. So now we know, when all other calming techniques have failed, pull out the tub. She also loves her changing table- it must be the pink room ;). Which is funny because David sure didn't like his! They do have one thing in common- they both nursed for a long time! Lily is 1 hour on and then 1 off all day long. My full time job now is feeding her.

Colic

Oh sweet, cute Lily. She cries. She cries all.the.time. I know it is a phase and will pass, but unfortunately we are on the 'uphill' of the battle. As in every day it gets worse, every night is worse than the one before. Ughhh. From about 3pm to 2am its just contant gas pains and screaming. Did I mention she also doesn't like the cradle or crib? She wants to be held while sleeping(when we put her down she wakes). We are taking turns watching her at night which is the only way we are getting any sleep.

I know I'm supposed to enjoy this small baby stage, but I find myself wishing that time would fastforward to about 10 weeks when this (hopefully) will get better! Until then, we are just trying to hang in there!

Home and doing well

We are doing well. Sadly my mom had to leave this morning, but we are looking forward to Grammy coming on Tuesday. Thank you mom for visiting and helping so much. I don't know what we would have done without her! She was here 2 weeks (because Lily was late she was here a week before the delivery). My Aunt Carol who lives in the area has been an amazing helper too. (her and my mom cleaned our whole place while we were at the hospital! best.gift.ever) The other night she took a few pictures of Lily with her fancy camera (and the talent to go with it!). I'm not in any of the pics because I was looking rough!

Lily did have issues with Jaundice and we were released from the hospital late (I forgot to update on this). We did have an at home nurse come and do tests for her the past couple of days and she is now in the 'green zone'. That is good.

I forgot to mention that I did have to go back to the hospital on Thursday because of severe abdominal pains. I couldn't even walk. After 8 hours in the hospital, people saying they thought I had appendicitis, I was finally diagnosed with constipation! Who knew it could be that painful! I hadn't gone since before the birth come to think of it...

Overall we are feeling very blessed to have sweet Lily. She really seems easier as a baby than David, but maybe that's because we knew what to expect. She cries when she has gas, needs to go #2, or is hungry. She is hungry ALL the time. Sheesh! We still are doing breastmilk and than formula only when needed. I REALLY want to get her off the formula, so we are working towards that. She loves to chomp so I am very very sore, but I'm trying to feed her as much as I can take it. I'm still on an antibiotic but the symptoms of my mastitis are gone now. We are hoping we are in the clear now and I won't have any more medical issues- at least for a little while!

Bump in the Road

Lily tested off the charts high for jaundice yesterday, so all last night we had to try to keep her in this light bed, ,which resulted in about 1.5 hours of sleep for me and even less for Zach because she didn't want anything to do with that.
We were supposed to go home from the hospital today, but we will not be able to. We will all spend the night tonight. If she is not doing well enough tomorrow than I will be discharged and she will stay (but I'm sure I'll stay too).
Unfortunately, because of all this we've had to do some things that we didn't want to do like give formula, but we weren't given a choice and I do want to do whats best for her. I don't want to end up with a blood transfusion! I'm still going to try to breastfeed as best as I can, for now she's on Alimentum.
Please pray that she gets better! Thanks!

Lily Elizabeth Eaton

Lily Elizabeth Eaton was born Friday 3/11 at 1:06pm weighing 6lb 12oz and 19 3/4in long. It was a very quick, uncomplicated induced labor. When I arrived at the hospital I was already 4cm so they just broke my bag of waters and that put me into labor. I never even needed the pitocin! Of course, there was no water in my bag of waters, but more on the birth story to come.

Lily is doing very well. She is a crier!! She wants to breastfeed all the time and latched on very well from the start and has a strong suck (so different from David!)

Induction Friday

I'm scheduled for an induction tomorrow, Friday (3/11). So much for going into labor naturally! I really wanted to, but I just need to have this baby while my mom is still visiting! I go in the hospital at 7:30.

Overdue

Yes, I am overdue. Ughh!!! I am 3 cm dialated and 100% effaced, but no signs of labor. My mom is here for a limited time only so I'm going crazy! I have an induction scheduled for this Friday the 11th if nothing happens before than. I'm really hoping to go into labor naturally before than. With David, I was induced at 39 weeks due to heartbeat decelerations and braxton hicks, so I don't know what going into labor on my own is like and would like to experience it! Please pray that I go into labor! Thanks!

Flip Flops Year Round

We're wearing flip flops year round now because we moved to South Florida! Zach and I both quit our jobs at the Air Force Base in Warner Robins to head to Jupiter/Palm City Florida. Zach got a job with a company that makes after market gas turbine parts. It is a good opportunity for his career. I'm currently not working and enjoying spending time with David and finishing up this pregnancy. This all happened sometime in November and its taken me this long to come up for air. Thanks to my in-laws who came to visit, we are unpacked and settled into the home we are renting (we still own the home in GA but we rented it out---big yuk to the housing market and being underwater). We are liking Florida, but it is hard being so far away from my parents now (nearly a 13 hour drive). We haven't found a church yet, but are looking. It does seem like everyone here is old, though we are in 'snow bird' season. We moved south in direction, but it seems as though we moved up north because of the people around here. The weather here is regularily in the mid-to-upper 70's when 'cold fronts' come through it drops to the 60's. These type of days are few and far between.

Baby preperations are in full swing as I am now 2 weeks until my due date. I feel fairly confident that she will not be coming early, but I'm still scrambling to get last minute things ready. We are very excited about the new baby. Ok, bachelor is on and I'm off to watch it and work on a project.

Pictures to come.
