I just found out that I have to go to a week long training (American Meter School) April 7-11 in Nebraska. I will be learning:

I'm actually quite nervous about leaving the family for a week and leaving Zach with David all by himself. I'm totally confident that he can do it, but I feel bad. I'm also sad about having to leave David for so long :( Apparently, I'll only have to go out of town 2 times this year, so I guess that isn't so bad.

6 Month Checkup
David had his six month check up on Friday. He actually did very well with the shots (he only cried a little). He got a clean bill of health except for some thrush in his mouth, so we got a prescription to help with that. He is still on his antibiotic so now he is taking that and the thrush medicine. I feel like we keep giving him more and more drugs! I feel bad, but I know they are making him healthier. David was in the 50% for weight, between the 50%-75% for height, and in the 90% for head circumfrance. I always thought his head looked quite large! We think his big head is adorable.
As far as development, he is doing well with sitting. He has been doing the triangle sit for quite a while (sitting with his arms down), and he just in the past couple of days starting sitting with no hands. He can do it for about 30 seconds and then he topples over when he decides to reach for a toy or move. I'm sure his balance will improve with time! He has started making sounds including, 'gir' 'ba' 'm' and 'd'. They are, however, few and far between and we are really waiting to hear a long sequence of 'da da da' or 'ba ba ba'. He has large belly laughs quite frequently and we really enjoy that!
On another note, I woke up this morning with pink eye. I think I caught it from the pediatrician's office. I went to a med-stop and got some medicine for my eye so hopefully it will go away soon! It's weird- they gave me an ointment instead of a drop- very hard to use! I know it is crazy contagious so I'm trying my hardest not to touch my eyes and I'm washing my hands about once every ten minutes.
Today, my friends from Atlanta from Tech came to visit and we went to lunch at a mexican restuarant. It was great fun seeing some friends! I'm so happy they visited. I really enjoyed it a lot. Anyone reading, please feel free to visit! We get lonely out here in WR!

V-Day, Presidents Day, and My B-day
So, I have a lot to update in this post! I'll start with David's crazy Valentines Day! I worked in Atlanta on V-day and got home around 6:30. I was expecting Zach and David, my loves, to be home already but they were not. I got a call from Zach explaining to me that there was a 'suspicious' package in the building right next to David's daycare. Consequently, all the babies and kids were evacuated from the day care building and led somewhere else. Unfortunetly, in the rush to get the kids to a safe spot, infant seats were left in the day care building. All the older kids could be picked up because their car seats stay in the car, but all the babies were just stuck. In addition, they didn't bring any bottles and all the babies were getting hungry. The day care building had been put under quanteen or somethiing so no one could go in. So, Zach and David and the workers and other babies were just stuck on the base. Because David was crying for food, I headed to the store to get some formula to bring him. Fortunately, at some point someone allowed the head of the day care to go in and get the car seats, and aroung 7pm or so David and Zach started heading home. Later, it was found that the suspicious package in the builing next door was in fact a bomb, and it was detanated in a secure zone. Very scary!
As for the celebration of V-day, we decided to stay home and cook and watch a movie. Zach of course got me a package of chocolate- I love V-day chocolates! We still don't know anyone in our area that can babysit for us, so going out was sort of not an option. We still had a wonderful night.
This past weekend was so wonderful. For my birthday celebration, Zach and I went to Atlanta and dropped David off at his Mimi's house. Saturday and Sunday night we spent the night in Atlanta and had a really good time just spending time together. It was wonderful. We came back Monday (Zach had the day off and I took a vacation day).
Today, we are back at work and Zach met me for lunch at Firehouse Subs. We both took long lunch breaks because it is my actually birthday today.
I've spent a lot of the day catching up on work, but I have also spent a good portion of the day reading about Chinese Adoption stories at http://www.myadoptionwebsite.com/chinaadoptionstories.htm . These stories are just so wonderful and they warm my heart. I hope one day we will be blessed with the ability to adopt a little girl from China.
On another note, David is sick again. He had a cold the past week and he started running a fairly high fever (102.5) on Friday. So on Saturday before we left for Atlanta, we stopped by the doctors. He got put on his very first antibiotic. He does not like it even though I think it smells quite delicious (like pineapples). We still went ahead and had our weekend get-a-way and let my parents watch sick David. It seems like he is a lot better now than he was on Friday. A few days on that antibiotic have done wonders. He has his 6-month check up on Friday and we think he will be well enough to get his shots. Poor little guy. We love him so much.

Quick Update
Our appraisal came back good! Now we just have to do a couple more things and we are set to close on our refinance by the end of February! Yeah!

Careers
Tomorrow we our getting our house appraised becuase we are trying to refinance at lower rates. This will save us nearly $130 a month, which is a ton of money to save a month! Please pray that it gets appraised at its original value- that it hasn't lost value despite the housing melt down that is going on.
So, today I am in Atlanta working and I'm avoiding doing this certain task that I have been dreading (related to a just nasty project). So, I will tell you about what I'd like to do with my life related to work. WORK- don't I wish I didn't have to! hehe. I have for a while now wanted to become a nurse. Specifically, a labor and delivery nurse. Several things appeal to me about this job. I love the miracle of childbirth, and wouldn't it be cool to be around that all the time and help with it? I think I would find that much more rewarding than working with gas pipes. Also, I am a people person- I would like to work with people instead of at a desk. I would love helping pregnant people have their babies! Nursing to me seems very fast pased and people oriented. I would like the fast paced schedule of it- I loved being a waitress and running around and just being busy. I would also like fewer, longer shifts and I think I could do well with weird hour shifts. Plus, if I could work nights or weekends we could avoid daycare. And, eventually I would be able to do this job parttime which is really what I would love to do- work part time.
The feasibility of this desire is a whole other ordeal. Macon State college has a 4-year BSN, Bachelors in Nursing degree, that I could complete in 2 years (with exception to a few pre-reqs) because I already have a bachelors. Since Zach and I both have student loans (we're anticipating his being paid off soon- yeah!), we can not take out any more loans for school. Fortunately, because nursing is in high demand, hospitals in the area have a program where they will pay your tuition if you agree to work for them for 2-years. What a deal! We figure that if our house refinances and we get Zach's student loans paid off I could quit work next January. The only thing holding me back from going back to school for this is DAY CARE for David. Pesty expensive day care! Currently, we pay nearly $700/ month for David's care (which is actually a GREAT deal) and we obiously would not be able to afford that if I wasn't working. I wish we lived near David's grandparents! I know in Atlnata my mom would watch David, but we don't live in Atlanta. Maybe we could find an older woman who has no grandkids that would like them and would babysit David for cheap while I went to school. That would be nice. Too bad you can't bring kids with you to class. I think colleges should offer daycare that you can drop your child into for a class and pick them up afterward. This would really improve the opportunity for single moms to get better eduation.
Having a career that has a flexible schedule and potential to work part time would really help us out for the future- by me making some money instead of staying at home. We would be able to save for college for our kid(s), and maybe pay off our mortgage early, have more babies, and do things we couldn't have otherwise afforded. Engineering just isn't a good career for having a family. There are no part time jobs, hard schedules (unless you work for the government like Zach), and all men so they are not understanding of pregnancy and being out of work to take care for a sick kid and such things.
Since this nursing degree can't be a reality because of no one to care of David, I will probably wait and do it when David enters kindergarten. Then we won't have to pay day care. Of course, then the question comes up- how will we fit in baby #2 into this plan? Sigh. We don't want our 2nd child to be more than 5 years apart from David. I guess for now we will just keep on with what we are doing- our current jobs and day care- and trust that God will work out the logistics of the future.

Rash is Gone!
Praise God! David's rash is gone and he is HEALTHY! Finally! Switching to the soy based formula really helped clear up his rash, even though he is so constipated now! We have a happy baby!My friend Rachel found out she is having a boy! Congrats Rachel and Mark!!!

We see White!
Quick Update- So, we didn't know that David was teething, but apparently he his! Tonight David was smiling and we saw a spec of white on is front lower gums. We stuck our fingers in his mouth, and sure enough we felt a little hard spot. His first tooth is beginning to poke through! We are very excited! I guess this explains why he has been drooling so much! I'm hoping the process will be slow coming because he just started sleeping through the night and I don't want that to be disrupted!
