Money and Relationships

I recently read this comment somewhere on the web and I can really relate right now:

Plently of relationships that had lots of love going for them failed because of money - how she spent it, how he spent it, stress, arguements, whether to put the kids into a private school, etc. It is much easier to live together when you don’t have to brawl over him buying an expensive brand of coffee and when you have a cleaning lady so that neither one of you spends weekends scrubbing toilets. Romance goes right out the window when you don’t have money to fly to your brother’s wedding, you maxed out your Visa on diapers and your gas tank is on empty. Stressed out, overtired people who have to do without any help - be it lawnmowing or babysitting, don’t generally have wonderful relationships. Trust me, there is a lot less to fight over when there is some money, and you have a lot less resentment of your partner.

I can relate to the part about not being ably to fly places! It's just so frustrating when you want to go to things like your grandfather's funeral, your nephew's birth, and best friend's new place and just can't swing it because you can barely buy the groceries and pay the medical bills and can't afford to put your son in swim lessons or buy multi-vitamins for the month. Not to mention have never had a babysitter in 2.5 years...dates- what are those? ARGHH

money is elusive--the more you get the more you spend. that is our theory anyway...be creative with dates and babysitting. swap with friends! we now try to go out once a month and it is so healthy...if you hire a highschooler it isn't that $

or rent a movie and watch it after he's in bed, we try to do that friday nights. hope you are doing well! -j
